From the Bride, Michaela: There were so many special aspects to our day. From little details, our ceremony uniting us as one, the amazingly touching and hilarious speeches made by our maid of honor, best man and my dad — everything was so memorable and important to us. It was equally important to us to honor a very special person who sadly didn’t get to see us be married. My husband’s father passed away last January, so we wanted to honor his memory. We had my grandmother sew a heart-shaped piece of one of his favorite shirts onto two hankies. One for me and one for McCann. The hanky I carried was my great, great grandmother’s hanky that she used on her wedding day many, many years ago. My grandma embroidered McCann’s dad’s initials on them and he carried his in his pocket, while I tied mine around my bouquet. It was our something borrowed and something blue. A way tangible to remember his dad and how much he meant to us.

Our ceremony was another important part of our day. We chose to wash each other’s feet, showing one another that we promise to love and serve the other person, just has God has loved and served us.

Some other fun touches included customized cornhole bean bags with our monograms, our delicious apple raspberry jam favors (we met in an apple orchard!), the comfy vignette seating we created outside of the dancing barn complete with blankets and pillows, our amazingly talented DJ who kept the beats rollin’ all night (the dance floor was literally never empty!) and the glow sticks we passed out at our reception, and our interactive polaroid camera guest book. What a FUN day, which we will remember for years to come.

Advice for brides: Once the day has arrived, just rest. Know that you’ve done everything you can to plan your beautiful celebration of marriage. Relax and let the professionals (and your bridal party!) take it from there. The only thing that truly matters is the fact that you are getting married! So celebrate that, take time during the day to take deep breaths and take it all in. I did lots of “this is my wedding day!”while just looking around the reception taking in the joy and beauty.

Practical advice for your wedding: hire a planner or coordinator. Just do it! It makes your life SO much easier. Our wedding flowed so well because of this. Also, find an amazing photographer and videographer. These are the only tangible memories of your day, so be sure you love the work of whomever you choose.

Jessica & Chris married! Carmel, CA

From the groom Chris: It was my first day at a new job. The boss walked me through the halls and introduced me one by one to each of my new coworkers. I met accounting, front desk, HR, marketing, and on and on until I came across the office "relocation specialist" and about broke my neck. She was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. We were hastily introduced and I stuttered through a dumbfounded "nice to meet you..." I spent the rest of the day in a stupor.

Over the next month I made up excuses to come talk to her. I asked if she could print out all my documents for me (as if hers was the only printer in the office I could use). I stopped by constantly to ask her for a pen or a ruler or a sticky note or white out or any number of things I didn't really need. It was kind of pathetic. Once, when she indicated she liked a huge 6x6 foot blackboard hanging in my office, I took the whole thing down and dragged it to her desk without thinking -- just to be her knight in shining armor. She politely explained that she had no place to put it and so I dragged back. It took me a month to work up the courage to ask her out. I finally did and never let her go.

Isabelle & Bryce married! Big Sur, CA

In August of 2005 both of them chose orders to Commander Carrier Strike Group Five on-board the USS Kitty Hawk in Yokosuka, Japan. They worked together for years with a "hello" here, and "how are you?" there, and once in a while "you're late" or "can you fill in for me?" It was strictly a working relationship and nothing more. They may not have been the best of friends, but after three years of working together they finally hung out and got to know each other. He made her laugh, she made him laugh, and they realized they had much more in common than having a great work ethic. In the summer of 2008, Bryce & Isabelle finally had their first date. Yet they had to remain professional and hide their relationship from their co-workers. They both decided to leave the military once their terms were over and moved to California in 2009. Soon after, they adopted their dog Lily. They both loved California, but it was time to explore a new place. Isabelle decided to attend the University of Rhode Island, so in January of 2012 they drove to Rhode Island, and they saw some of the most wonderful parks of the U.S. along the way.

In August of 2012 they were invited to Walt Disney World in Florida for a family vacation. After 4 years of loving each other, on August 7th, 2012 inside Cinderella's Castle, after the fireworks show, Bryce got down on one knee and proposed to Isabelle with an amazing ring. She of course said "Yes!" She was very surprised and there was even cheering and applause from everyone in the restaurant. After 5 years and 19 days of loving each other, they exchanged vows at Wind & Sea in Big Sur!
